Is the Yamaha FG700S folk acoustic guitar any good? And what does the “folk” really mean?
Does this mean that it won’t sound as well for any other music? (I’m interested in playing acoustic versions of alternative and rock songs.)
I’m trying to convince my parents to get me another guitar besides the Esteban one that they saw on HSN (which it’s very good, from what I’ve seen on here).
This is my first guitar. I hear that solid tops are good, and this has a solid spruce top. And the price isn’t too bad, either, at $200. (http://www.zzounds.com/item–YAMFG700S)
Is this worth it? (and is it at least better than the Esteban guitar)
And are folk guitars better or worse than dreadnought?
Any other recommendations if you don’t like this guitar?
Go to an independent guitar shop (Not one of the big chain stores) be up front and honest with the people there about your wants. Don’t pretend you know something your don’t. Most locally owned shops will work with you on getting a good deal on a guitar you will be comfortable with. If you feel any pressure, run, don’t walk away and find another shop.
